Thus the breakdown of expenses by Institute in the above diagram reflects both the disciplinary field of each Institute and the number of units and the payroll costs of its CNRS staff members. By discipline, Chemistry (INC) and the Earth Sciences and Astronomy (INSU) receive the largest share (11.4% and 9.8%, respectively) after Biological Sciences (INSB: 17.5%).
