Director of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences
A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, holder of a PhD in history and a university lecturer, François-Joseph Ruggiu teaches at the Sorbonne (Paris IV). A specialist in comparative history of family and societies in modern-age Europe, he also studies the history of American societies during the colonial period. Since 2010, François-Joseph Ruggiu has occupied several positions within the INSHS: Deputy Scientific Director overseeing the joint research units of sections 32, 33 and 39; technology transfer, communication, and scientific and technical information manager; Deputy Scientific Director in charge of the CNRS site policy and the creation of the Condorcet campus; before becoming head of the Institute in July 2017.
