The sections represent all fields of scientific knowledge. There are 41 in all.
The 41 sections evaluate the activities of researchers and research units. They also analyze current context and perspectives and serve as admission panels for the recruitment of new researchers.
The CIDs have authority in fields involving several sections or Institutes. There are five CIDs for the 2012-2016 term of office.
The missions of the CIDs depend on their field of activity.
